Chitipa community hails early learning structure
People in Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa District have expressed excitement with the construction of a community-based childcare centre learning structure in the area.
The structure, near Ilengo Primary School, is expected to accommodate 72 learners who were learning under a tree.
In an interview, a community member Aaron Sichali said the new structure will motivate children and caregivers to work hard.
“As a community, we are also pleased because the structure will provide safety to children during rainfall or sunny weather,” he said.

Sichali thanked World Vision Malawi for constructing the structure and asked community members to take care of it.
A caregiver Kissah Simbeye said the structure will serve children from Kameme I and Bangamoyo villages.
She said: “We thank World Vision for the building because it will create a conducive environment for learning.
“It was not good instructing children under the sun or trees. Mostly, classes were being interrupted, especially during the rainy season.”
Simbeye said it had to take traditional leaders and other community members to ask World Vision to build the structure.
She said the previous structure collapsed in 2017 due to heavy rainfall in the district.
“Therefore, the organisation built a proper structure that will protect the children during the rainy and cold season,” said Simbeye.
Simbeye is one of the centre’s three caregivers trained by World Vision and believes the structure will also make her job exciting
